July meeting

This month's meeting was a series of "Have a Go" demonstrations of techniques for creating surfaces for stitch.  These included monoprinting, dynaflow painting, transfer printing, silk papermaking, waxing and oiling paper.

The meeting concluded with a Jacob's Feast which rounded off another excellent year for our branch.

June meeting

Pauline Barnes brought some beautiful quilts inspired by her trips to Mexico and Guatemala.
Her talk introduced us to some of the beautiful buildings and textile traditions of the countries.

May Meeting

Judith Rowley shared her 'Creative Journey' with us today.
She explained how she developed her ideas into textile pieces for exhibitions.  Her work and samples were interesting and inspiring.

Today's workshop was a real delight!

Ann Paterson

Our April meeting was a talk by Ann Paterson and what a superb speaker she was!
Her talk embraced history, politics, textile techniques, design and much more - all delivered with knowledge and humour.

Ruth Colley, our programme secretary, has been unable to hear the last three inspirational speakers as she has been unwell. However she is still working away at the next 2 years' programmes on our behalf. She does an incredible job in finding such a variety of speakers to entertain and inform us. She contributes hugely to the success of our branch and we hope that she feels well enough to join us again soon.

April meeting

The April meeting sounds very interesting indeed.
Ann Paterson describes her work:

'I have produced mixed media pieces about the lives of Eleanor of Aquitaine, Jane Austen, Ada Lovelace and Marie Stopes all of which have been widely exhibited, both locally and nationally. I try to use textile techniques which would have been appropriate to the times in which these women lived.

Since 2009 I have been absorbed in researching the life of a woman who lived in more modern times – Emma Sproson – the Wolverhampton Suffragette. Her memoirs have inspired me to complete many pieces'

April mini workshop

The list of requirements for April's mini workshop :

4 Square Mini-Workshop Requirements List

·      Sewing kit

·      2 pieces of cotton/calico type fabric at least 6ins by 6ins. (One piece will be a backing for the other).

·      Hoop at least 4ins diameter.

·      Threads; assorted textures, cottons, silks. You may like to choose a selection based around different shades of one colour with one or two contrasting. Or you can just have a glorious jumble of colours!

·      Pen whose marks fade or can be removed by water.
